Introducing HxGN AM Studio Support

Automate Metal AM Support Generation: From manual labor to streamlined workflows

AM process engineers spend hours manually placing and configuring supports for each part, optimizing for build time, material efficiency and ease of removal.
Not only is the process highly manual, it also often relies on experience and rules of thumb rather than standardized approaches.

Synera solves this challenge now by enabling AM process engineers to capture the whole build preparation process into standardized automations, yielding repeatable results as well as saving hours of time for each build job.

"I’m thrilled to see Hexagon bring more of their industry leading technology to Synera. Through the addition of HxGN AM Studio Support module, we're empowering AM engineers to automate away more tedious build preparation task and even develop their own automated end-to-end solution. Our collaboration with AM Studio team at Hexagon exemplifies Synera’s commitment to building an open ecosystem that drives innovation in Additive Manufacturing."
- Andrew Sartorelli, Software Partnership Lead Synera

Introducing HxGN AM Studio Support

Hexagon’s new AM Studio Support add-in now adds advanced support structure generation for metal AM to Synera’s growing ecosystem of AM process tools. It comes with five combinations of standard support types – Rod, Line and Block – which form the foundation of most support strategies.

Hollow rods do not require hatching and their octagonalshape further reduces scan times compared to higher polygon circles.

Contour smoothing for line supports reduces the number oflaser movements, leading to reduced build times.

In addition, AM Studio Supports features advanced Tree and Adaptive Cell support types. For each support type, special optimizations are employed to minimize build times.

Tree supports use intelligent branching algorithms to reachcomplex overhangs while minimizing material usage.

Adaptive Cell supports create lightweight large areas. With a structural performance comparable to block supports, their fractalmulti-scale structure significantly reduces depowdering time and material usage.

Closing the gap in the AM process chain

The add-in seamlessly integrates into the broader end-to-end AM product development workflow in Synera – from AM-ready part design over structural analysis to build preparation including part orientation optimization, nesting, support generation, slicing and machine file generation.

"Open partnerships and seamless integrations are at the heart of advancing additive manufacturing. By bringing HxGN AM Studio Support to Synera, we’re not only enhancing user capabilities but also contributing to a broader ecosystem that accelerates innovation and progress in AM. It’s exciting to see our tools empower Synera users with smarter, more automated workflows."
- Daniel Stadlmayr, Senior Product Manager Hexagon

By eliminating repetitive manual tasks and automating support strategies, engineers can now dedicate more time to the optimization of part design and build process. The HxGN AM Studio Support add-in, now available through the Synera Marketplace, represents a significant step toward automated metal AM product development.

With the release of HxGN AM Studio Support, the AM product development workflow in Synera now covers the full range from AM-readypart design over mechanical analysis to build preparation and costing.
