AI Agents Solving the Productivity Crisis in Engineering

Engineering teams today face immense pressure: deliver more complex, higher-quality products faster, while keeping costs down. However, traditional processes are struggling to keep up. Key productivity drains include repetitive manual tasks and growing process complexity. A Siemens/Tech-Clarity study found that over 30% of engineers identify repetitive work—like documentation and standardized reports—as major productivity killers. On top of that, increasingly complex products require coordination across multiple disciplines, projects, and tools, often leading to “hidden waiting times” that traditional methods can’t solve.

AI-based engineering agents offer the potential to fundamentally transform processes and raise productivity to a new level.

Synera proposes a transformative solution: AI agents powered by Large Language Models (LLMs) and integrated automation. These agents act as intelligent digital assistants capable of understanding engineering tasks, making decisions, and operating external software tools. Unlike simple automation, AI agents communicate in natural technical language, understand domain-specific knowledge (e.g., mechanics, fluid dynamics), and independently execute tasks such as setting up and interpreting simulations.

A key innovation is the shift from single AI agents to multi-agent systems—digital engineering teams where specialized agents work together, coordinated by a manager agent. These systems mimic human collaboration but with advantages: 24/7 availability, real-time communication, parallel task execution, and scalability at a fraction of human cost. This dramatically shortens development cycles and reduces idle time, boosting both productivity and innovation.

The challenge lies in integrating AI agents with complex CAx (computer-aided technologies) tools, which often lack standardized interfaces. Synera bridges this gap with a low-code platform and over 50 connectors to major CAx tools. AI agents interact with these tools through pre-built automated workflows, meaning they don’t need deep software knowledge. Engineers can trigger workflows, pass parameters, and receive results—no coding or command-line needed.

To accelerate adoption, Synera is working with industry leaders and AWS through a Joint Development Task Force, focusing on real-world use cases and secure, scalable deployment.

"The scalability offered by multi-agent systems has the potential to take engineering to new levels of productivity and innovation, similar to the Industrial Revolution or the dawn of the Information Age." - Dr. Moritz Maier, Co-Founder & Co-CEO

Ultimately, AI agents and multi-agent systems offer a revolutionary leap in engineering productivity—comparable to the industrial or digital revolutions—by freeing engineers from routine tasks and enabling them to focus on innovation.
