Bridging the gap between Design and Manufacturing

Holistic Solutions for Engineering of Metallic Components

Details

The design of metallic components often faces a critical challenge: the lack of integration between the design phase and manufacturing processes. Designers frequently lack detailed knowledge of specific manufacturing methods, knowledge traditionally acquired only through hands-on experience in production. This gap limits the ability of engineers to achieve the ideal "first part is the right part" approach and places an unrealistic expectation on them to master a wide range of expertise.

In this webinar, hosted by Synera, Tecnalia will delve into how advanced computational models and holistic design tools can address this challenge. We will present an innovative platform developed by Tecnalia that integrates predictions for microstructure, material properties, and the operational performance of metallic alloys based not only on composition but also on the manufacturing process. Leveraging Synera’s automation and interconnectivity capabilities, we can seamlessly combine alloy design/material properties prediction with structural optimization techniques, such as bio-inspired design and topology optimization, to create components tailored to their functional requirements while incorporating manufacturing constraints to minimize defects.

Additionally, we will introduce eCAST, an Add-in developed within Synera, which integrates with CAM tools to predict the optimal casting system design based on various success criteria without having to rely on the expertise of the foundry operators. Furthermore, we will demonstrate Tecnalia’s ability to bring these designs to life through the manufacturing of prototypes. The session will conclude with a practical example: the optimized design and fabrication of a thermal management component made of cast aluminum.
