Bridging the gap between Design and manufacturing

Explore advanced tools that integrate alloy design, structural optimisation and manufacturing for optimised components.

Details

The design of metallic components often faces a critical challenge: the lack of integration between the design phase and manufacturing processes. Designers often lack detailed knowledge of specific manufacturing processes, knowledge that is traditionally gained only through hands-on experience in production. This gap limits the ability of engineers to achieve the ideal 'first part is the right part' approach.

TECNALIA will discuss how advanced computational models and holistic design tools can address this challenge. We will present an innovative platform developed by TECNALIA that integrates predictions of microstructure, material properties and operational performance of metallic alloys based not only on composition but also on the manufacturing process. Leveraging Synera's automation and connectivity capabilities, we can seamlessly combine alloy design/material property prediction with structural optimization techniques such as bio-inspired design and topology optimization to create components tailored to their functional requirements while incorporating manufacturing constraints to minimise defects.

Additionally, we will introduce eCAST, which integrates with CAM tools to predict the optimal casting system design based on various success criteria without having to rely on the expertise of the foundry operators.
